Rotarians In The News
Westboro Public Library Director Maureen Ambrosino is one of 45 public library workers from across the country who have been selected to receive a stipend to attend “Stand Up for Health: Health and Wellness Services for Your Community,” a preconference workshop to be held at the Public Library Association Conference in Philadelphia. The conference will be held from March 20-24 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The preconference workshop is part of Promoting Healthy Communities, a new nationwide initiative from PLA and National Network of Libraries of Medicine that will increase public library workers’ knowledge and skills related to consumer health services (the preceding courtesy of the Worcester Telegram).

Jorge Yarzebski Visits Nicaragua
Earlier this month, Jorge and  Dr. John Broach (Chief of the Division of Disaster Medicine and Director of the Worcester Emergency System (EMS), traveled to Leon, Nicaragua as part of a GEMINI’s needs assessment visit. They met with the board of directors of the Leon Rotary Club. Through a Rotary Global Grant, GEMINI was able to establish an American Heart Association training center for CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support in which students and instructors are trained on an ongoing basis. During this trip, Jorge and Dr. Broach met with the dean of the medical school of the Autonomous University of Nicaragua, along with physicians and professors of the medical school to develop a plan to improve their EMS. Pictured at left, Jorge presents a flag received from the Rotary Club of Leon to President Shelby.

GEMINI is our club's Global Emergency Medicine Initiative, a collaborative Rotary International service project. We work with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Rotary International District 7910, other Rotary clubs across the globe, medical facilities, and governments of participating countries to bring training in emergency medicine, expertise, and equipment to developing countries worldwide.  To learn more, visit the GEMINI website.
