Celebrating 50 Years of Service in Westborough and Beyond

2019 - 2020 Club Vision
When I first joined Rotary ten years ago, I had no idea what Rotary was all about.  I didn’t know if Rotarians wore funny hats, practiced mysterious rituals or had secret handshakes.  I didn’t understand the mission of Rotary, its basic principles or the breadth and scope of the organization.  But what I discovered when I went to that first meeting was a group of men and women who genuinely wanted to do good in this world, and somehow, make a difference.

Rotarians are servant-leaders. There are many reasons why someone first joins a Rotary Club, but invariably, those members who stay, who make Rotary part of their life fabric, are here to serve. And we do so by empowering others – our members, our partners, and those whom we help.

Call for Auction Items
Our “Night at the Casino” celebration of 50 years of service event being held on Friday, October 25th at the Doubletree Hotel in Westborough. This community event will feature a 007 themed casino, auction, fun, food and a celebration of Nelson Ball for his role in launching the Rotary Club of Westborough 50 years ago.

A big part of the financial success of the event will center around the auction items that we have to offer.  There will be a silent auction for most items and a live auction for higher value items. The goal is to have 20-30 auction items. Here is what we are looking for from our members, if possible, to contribute to the auction.
  • Tickets to sporting events such as Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, Revolution and others.
  • Tickets to entertainment and theatre productions in Boston and Worcester (Hanover Theatre, Tanglewood, Wang Theatre, etc.).
  • Autographed memorabilia.
  • High ticket items like a summer or winter ski weekend or week at the Cape, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.
  • Any other specialty item or service that we haven’t thought of that you think may be of value and interest to attendees.

While we will be out approaching restaurants, specialty stores, etc. for auction items, contributions from members of items listed above would go a long way toward the success of the event. It’s not just what you might personally be able to contribute, but, if you can provide any names and contacts of people or organizations you know that typically provide contributions to auctions that would be appreciated as well.

Regardless of whether you have something to contribute a reply back would be helpful for our tracking purposes. I hope to hear from you ASAP as the event will be hear before you know it. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Cultivate Care Farms Service Project
On May 11th, Westborough Rotarians joined with other Rotarians & friends from District 7910 to help build housing for pigs and chickens at Cultivate Care Farms in Bolton, MA.  We also rebuilt a fire pit, and, several lucky Rotarians had the pleasure of "mucking out" a barn. Cultivate Care Farms'  mission is to operate, maintain, and expand Care Farming for humans and animals to heal and grow therapeutically through mental health, wellness, and community outreach programming. See https://cultivatefarms.org to learn more about their program.
